Datasets and Versions
Contents
Depending on your licensing, you may have multiple datasets and software versions available for use in routing and route reports. These sets are selected in API calls by using the dataVersion
or dataset
parameters. Current
is the default value for all APIs.
dataVersion Options
-
PCMXX: These values use the data and software as it was at the time that version “XX” of PC*Miler was released. (For example,
PCM24
orPCM32
) -
PCM_WW (Worldwide): This value uses the data and software from the most current version release of PC*Miler Worldwide.
-
PCM_NA (North America), PCM_EU (Europe), PCM_OC (Oceania), PCM_SA (South America), PCM_ME (Middle East), PCM_AS (Asia),PCM_AF (Africa), PCM_GT (GeoTrack): These values use the most current software and data for the region selected. View list of countries by region.
-
Current (Default): This value uses the most current software and data for any regions you have available based on your licensing.
-
Baseline: This value uses the original data and software for the most current version release of PC*Miler.
-
LastQuarter: This value uses the data from the last quarterly data release. For example, if Q4 data is released, Q3 data will be used.
dataset Options
For Location (Geocoding) APIs, and the Route Path API, the dataset
parameter accepts the same values as dataVersion
.
For other Mapping APIs, dataset
options include:
-
PCM_WW (Worldwide): This value uses the data and software from the most current version release of PC*Miler Worldwide.
-
PCM_NA (North America), PCM_EU (Europe), PCM_OC (Oceania), PCM_SA (South America), PCM_ME (Middle East), PCM_AS (Asia),PCM_AF (Africa), PCM_GT (GeoTrack): These values use the most current software and data for the region selected. View list of countries by region.
-
Current (Default): This value uses the most current software and data for any regions you have available based on your licensing.
About PC*Miler version releases
A new version of PC*Miler is released each year. It incorporates all of the most current data and routing enhancements at the time of release. In Routing APIs, the version release is used by setting the dataVersion
to PCMXX
, with XX
being the version number.
Those same routing and data enhancements in each version release are released throughout the year in the Routing APIs, as detailed in our release notes. You can take advantage of them at any time by using the default dataVersion
of Current
.
The standardized “numbered” annual version releases are mostly used by shippers and carriers when generating distances for freight rating and billing. It helps ensure they are generating the same PC*Miler distances for the same trucking lanes, and that distances match those returned by our installed “on premise” versions of PC*Miler.
Building truck routes
Current
is the recommended setting for generating truck route paths and driving directions because it takes into account new road construction. However, updates to the map data may cause a Current
route to differ in mileage from the same route generated with a numbered PC*Miler version.
If you do not need data from older versions of PC*Miler, contact us to have your API key set to always use Current
data.
